 SCHOOL RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR MARYMOUNT CATHOLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL

  1.  

    SECTION  A

    PUNISHABLE OFFENCES

    1. Being rude, stubborn, disrespectful and defiance of authority.

    2. Disobedience to guidance from the head-girls and prefects.

    3. Speaking in vernacular language.

    4. Absenteeism in class without valid reasons.

    5. Cheating during examinations.

    6. Administering medicines to a fellow student.

    7. Going out of bounds or around the staff houses without permission.

    8. Noise making or screaming in the teaching area and hostels.

    9. Found wearing civilian clothes during class times and other school activities and outside school campus without permission.

    10. Being late for periods of prep, class and other school activities.

    11. Stealing of any kind is punishable:

    (i) Petty theft

    (ii) Stealing, extortion and fraud

    (iii) Lending money on interests to fellow students.

    12. Damage to school property 

    13. Asking or begging money from fellow students, teachers, support staff and visitors when in (no money, bankrupt) as a charity or fund raising for self.

    14. Instigating others to strike and acts of vandalism.

    15. Absconding from co-curricular activities i.e. sports, entertainment.

    16. Inter hostel and inter class visits.

    17. Found in possession of beer, cigarettes and narcotics in any form.

    18. Quarrelling or fighting with others.

    19. Sharing beds/bonding.

    20. Not submitting assignments.

    21. Teasing and bullying.

    22. Reporting late for classes.

    23. Being found pregnant and abortion or attempt to abort.

    24. Any form of indecency that is deemed immoral behavior. This includes being found in possession of pornographic material. 

    25. Being found in possession and using electronic gadgets such as phones,      mp3

    26. Entertaining visitors without permission.

    27. Failure to take food in the dining hall without valid reasons or the knowledge of people in authority.

    28. The use of bad language, distribution of unwanted literature and publications.

    29. Freshly cooked foodstuffs e.g. nsima, rice, chips, relish of any type, fresh maize, vegetables like tomatoes, cabbages and onions are not allowed in the hostels.  Fruits like mangoes are also not allowed.  Eating in the classroom is also forbidden. Fruits like mangoes are also not allowed in the hostels.

    30. Suicide attempts.

    31. Being found with junkie and unauthorized food

    32. Entering through the windows into and out of the hostels

    33. Being found in long hair, painted finger nails and make ups.

    34. Any other behavior which the discipline committee deems fit.

     

    SECTION B

    DISCIPLINARY SENTENCES AND THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFENCES

    1. INTERNAL PUNISHMENT

    1. Absenteeism in class

    2. Noise making or screaming in the teaching area and hostels.

    3. Being found without full school uniform without valid reasons

    4. Being late for periods of prep, class and other school activities

    5. Damage to school property (replacement)

    6. Asking or begging money from fellow students, teachers, support staff and visitors when in(no money, bankrupt) as a charity or fund raising for self

    7. Absconding from co-curricular activities i.e. sports, entertainment. No one should be found in the hostels during entertainment. Those who would like to study during entertainment should use the dining hall up to 8:30pm.

    8. Inter hostel and inter class visits.

    9. Quarrelling

    10. Not submitting assignments

    11. Reporting late for classes

    12. Found wearing civilian clothes during class times and other school activities and outside school campus without permission.

    13. Failure to take food in the dining hall without valid reasons.

    14. Freshly cooked foodstuffs such as junk and unauthorized food e.g. nsima, rice, chips, relish of any type, fresh maize, vegetables like tomatoes, cabbages and onions are not allowed in the hostels.  Fruits like mangoes are also not allowed.  Eating in the classroom is also forbidden. Fruits like mangoes are also not allowed in the hostels

     

     2. RUSTICATION: (Not more than two weeks)

    1. Being rude, stubborn, disrespectful and defiance of authority

    2. Disobedience to guidance from the head-girls and prefects.

    3.Speaking in vernacular language. The speaking of vernacular is strictly restricted to the hostels.

    4. Absenteeism in class or other co-curricular activities. (Upon repetition)

    5. Administering medicines to a fellow student.

    6. Going out of bounds or around the staff houses without permission.

    7. Noise making or screaming in the teaching area and hostels.(Upon repetition)

    8. Inter hostel and inter class visits

    9. Petty theft

    10. Any of the punishable offences above as the discipline committee deems fit.

     3.SUSPENSION: (three to six weeks)

    1. Being rude, stubborn, disrespectful and defiance of authority

    2. Cheating during examinations

    3. Going out of bounds or around the staff houses without permission.

    4. Fighting with others

    5. Sharing beds/bonding

    6. Teasing and bullying

    7. Being found in possession and using electronic gadgets such as phones, mp3

    8. Entertaining visitors without permission

    9. The use of bad language, distribution of unwanted literature and publications.

    10. Entering through the windows into and out of the hostels

    11. Being found in long hair, painted finger nails and make ups.   

     12.Any of the punishable offences above as the discipline committee deems fit.

     4.DISMISSAL/EXPULSION FROM SCHOOL (leave Marymount for good)

    1. Being rude, stubborn, disrespectful and defiance of authority

    2. Stealing, extortion and fraud

    3. Lending money on interests to fellow students

    4. Instigating others to strike and acts of vandalism

    5. Being found in possession of beer, cigarettes and narcotics in any form

    6. Any form of indecency that is deemed immoral behavior. This includes being found in possession of pornographic material.

    7. Being found pregnant and abortion or attempt to abort.

    8. Suicide attempts

    9. Any of the punishable offences above as the discipline committee deems fit

    10. Repeated offences under suspension
